2 Repairs A Garage Door Service Might Do When Your Door Gets Noisy

Posted on

One of the first signs you may notice when your garage door needs to be serviced is a weird noise. Some garage doors are noisier than others, but when your door gets louder or makes new sounds, it's a good idea to call a garage door service so they can fix your door before it gets stuck or jumps out of the track. Here are two repairs your door could need.

1. Tighten The Tracks

If the screws work loose in the tracks, you'll probably hear a loud rattling noise as the tracks vibrate against the wall of your garage. This is a problem you should fix as soon as possible since the screws might eventually fall out and cause the track to shift.

Since the door travels up and down the track, the track needs to be stable and secure. The door can jump out of the track if the track and door are not seated properly. This garage door fix is fairly simple since it usually just requires tightening up the screws in the track.

However, if the track was bent out of shape while it was rattling, it might need to be replaced if the garage door technician can't get it bent back properly.

2. Replace The Rollers

Depending on the type of rollers your garage door has, you may need to lubricate them a couple of times a year. Garage door rollers wear down fairly fast, especially if you use your door a lot. Some types of rollers last longer than others and some are quieter than others.

If your door has plastic rollers and they're worn out, they'll need to be replaced. You might want to ask your garage door service about rollers that last the longest and are the quietest. However, they may be the most expensive too. Worn-out rollers should be replaced since the rollers might jump out of the track when they're worn down.

If that happens, you'll need to call a garage door service right away so you can get the door closed to secure your garage. Plus, a door that's out of the track on one side might be dangerous if kids or pets might get around the door.

These two problems that cause a garage door to get noisy can often be prevented by having regular maintenance done on your garage door. You can look for loose screws, dents in the track, and signs of worn rollers as you examine the door.
